1 The central government has appointed three senior advocates as
Additional Solicitors General (ASGs). The appointed ASGs are Davinder Pal
Singh, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, and Anil Kaushik. ASGs represent the
central government in the Supreme Court of India. Their tenure is for three
years or until further orders. ASGs assist the Attorney General and the
Solicitor General in legal matters.

2 The Ministry of Civil
Aviation has given the green light to two new airlines, Al Hind Air and
FlyXpress, which have received their No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Another
airline from Uttar Pradesh, Shankh Air, which has already received its NOC, is
expected to begin operations in 2026. Currently, only nine scheduled domestic
airlines are operational. India is now the world's third-largest domestic
aviation market. Shravan Kumar is the founder and chairman of Shankh Air. He
hails from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

3 The world-famous Dhanu
Jatra festival in Bargarh, Odisha, commenced grandly on December 24, 2025, and
will continue for 11 days. During this time, the entire city transforms into
the mythical city of Mathura, where the divine exploits of Lord Krishna are
enacted. It is considered the world's
largest open-air theatre festival. This cultural extravaganza is based on the
story of Lord Krishna and his uncle Kansa, with both the audience and
performers participating in this vibrant theatrical experience. The central
government has accorded it the status of a national festival.

4 Israel
officially recognized the Republic of Somaliland on December 26, 2025, becoming
the first country in the world to do so. Somaliland, a self-governing region in
northern Somalia, declared its independence from Somalia in 1991 but has
remained internationally unrecognized as a separate state and is still
considered an integral part of Somalia. Its capital is Hargeisa. Somaliland's
President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, described the development as "a
historic moment."

badminton icon Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (PV Sindhu) has achieved a major
milestone off the court as well. The two-time Olympic medalist and former world
champion PV Sindhu has been elected as the Chairperson of the Badminton World
Federation (BWF) Athletes' Commission for the 2026–2029 term. As the
chairperson of the Athletes' Commission, PV Sindhu will also be a member of the
BWF Council. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) was founded on July 5, 1934,
as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) and was later renamed BWF in
2006; its headquarters are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and it is the global governing
body for the sport of badminton.

6. President Droupadi Murmu boarded the indigenously built Kalvari-class
submarine INS Vaghsir. The Supreme Commander of India's Armed Forces, President
Droupadi Murmu, had arrived at the Karwar naval base in Karnataka. This was
President Murmu's first visit to a Kalvari-class submarine. She is the second
President in Indian history to do so. Before her, former President and Bharat
Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had undertaken a sortie on a submarine. INS Vaghsir,
built under Project 75, is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, weapons, and
stealth capabilities, making it a crucial asset for India's maritime power in
the Indian Ocean region.

7 Mount Etna, a stratovolcano located on the eastern coast of
Sicily, Italy, has become active again, spewing glowing lava and small amounts
of ash from its northeastern crater. According to the UN, Etna is "the
world's most active stratovolcano, continuously erupting ash and lava for
thousands of years." The main reason for volcanic activity in Italy is the
collision and subduction zone of the African and Eurasian tectonic plates,
where the African plate is subducting beneath the Eurasian plate, melting and
rising to the surface as magma, giving rise to volcanoes like Etna and
Vesuvius.

8 IIT Patna has inaugurated Bihar's first 'Param Rudra'
supercomputer, a significant achievement under the National Supercomputing
Mission (NSM). This will boost advanced research, data science, AI, and complex
scientific computations in Bihar and the Purvanchal region, freeing local
researchers from relying on resources outside the state. It is a
state-of-the-art High-Performance Computing (HPC) system with a capacity of 838
teraflops (TFLOPS), featuring 180 compute nodes and high memory. The Param
Rudra supercomputer was indigenously developed by the Centre for Development of
Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

9. The government has taken steps to declare the Parvati-Arga Bird
Sanctuary in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh as an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ),
with the aim of conserving its biodiversity and fragile ecosystem, promoting
responsible eco-tourism, and ensuring the participation of local communities.
Eco-Sensitive Zones in India are declared by the Ministry of Environment,
Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) under the Environment (Protection) Act,
1986. The Parvati-Arga Bird Sanctuary was declared a Ramsar Site by the
Government of India on March 22, 2021.
सरकार ने उत्तर प्रदेश के गोंडा जिले में स्थित पार्वती-अरगा पक्षी अभयारण्य (Parvati-Arga Bird Sanctuary) को पर्यावरण-संवेदनशील क्षेत्र (Eco-Sensitive Zone - ESZ) घोषित करने की दिशा में कदम उठाए हैं, जिसका उद्देश्य इसकी जैव विविधता और नाजुक पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र को संरक्षित करना, जिम्मेदार इको-टूरिज्म को बढ़ावा देना और स्थानीय समुदायों की भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करना है। भारत में पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्रालय (MoEFCC) द्वारा पर्यावरण (संरक्षण) अधिनियम, 1986 के तहत Eco-Sensitive Zone घोषित किए जाते हैं। पार्वती-अरगा पक्षी अभयारण्य को 22 मार्च 2021 को भारत सरकार द्वारा रामसर स्थल (Ramsar Site) घोषित किया गया था।
