1 The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has launched
a Center of Excellence for Financial Auditing in Hyderabad, a major step toward
modernizing India's audit system. The center will adopt global best practices,
adapt international audit techniques to Indian needs, and strengthen
institutional capacity.

2 Five institutes under
the Ministry of Earth Sciences have been integrated into the Earth System
Science Council (ESSC) to streamline administration and promote coordinated
research. The ESSC brings together IITM Pune, NCPOR Goa, NIOT Chennai, NCESS
Thiruvananthapuram, and INCOIS Hyderabad under a single organizational
structure. Formally registered in 2023, the ESSC will be headed by the
Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences.

3 The United States has
designated Saudi Arabia as a major non-NATO ally (MNNA), a move announced
during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington, marking a
historic advance in bilateral relations. Saudi Arabia will receive F-35 fighter
jets, making it the first Arab nation to receive the fifth-generation aircraft,
as well as nearly 300 advanced US tanks and expanded joint defense
manufacturing.

4 India's
global climate performance ranking has dropped to 23rd place, after being in
the top 10 last year. According to the report, India has received a score of
61.31, citing the rapid increase in coal use and the lack of a set deadline for
reducing it. The CCPI 2026 report was released by Germanwatch, NewClimate
Institute, and Climate Action Network at the COP30 conference.

Jitendra Singh launched BIRSA 101, India's first indigenous CRISPR-based gene
therapy for sickle cell disease (SCD), dedicated to Birsa Munda on his 150th
birth anniversary. This breakthrough symbolizes India's formal mission to
become Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)-free, transform public health, and advance
genomic medicine. BIRSA 101 is a low-cost alternative to global treatments that
cost ₹20-25 crore.

6. The Cambridge Dictionary has chosen
parasocial as its 2025 Word of the Year, reflecting the growing interest in
people's one-sided emotional connections with celebrities, influencers,
fictional characters, and AI systems. Coined in 1956 by sociologists Donald
Horton and Richard Wohl, the term originally described emotional attachments to
TV personalities, but has now expanded to include digital and AI-based
relationships.

7 Nitish Kumar has become
the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad
Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
on Thursday at a ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The Governor of
Bihar, exercising the powers conferred under Article 164 (1) of the
Constitution, appointed Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister of Bihar and a
member of the Council of Ministers.

8. India Post has launched the country's first Gen Z-themed post office at IIT Delhi. Designed in collaboration with students, the center features modern aesthetics, a Wi-Fi-enabled area, creative graffiti and artworks from the IIT Fine Arts Society, and smart service touchpoints such as QR-based parcel booking and student-friendly Speed Post discounts. For the first time in the country, IIT Delhi has also launched a student franchise model, giving students hands-on experience in postal operations and fostering entrepreneurship.

9. HDFC Bank has overtaken
IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to become the country's most
valuable brand with a brand value of $44.9 billion. This was revealed by the
Kantar Brandz Most Valuable Indian Brands Report 2025. Zomato has held the
record for being the fastest-growing brand for the second consecutive year.
HDFC Bank was established in 1994, as a subsidiary of Housing Development
Finance Corporation (HDFC), and started operations as a scheduled commercial
bank in 1995.

10 Roger Federer will be
inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) in August 2026.
Federer, who retired in 2022, is a 20-time Grand Slam champion, has won 103

(2004–2008). The International Tennis Hall of Fame is located in Newport, Rhode
Island, United States.
