The IBPS SO (Specialist Officer) Exam conducted every year is a golden opportunity for those interested in a banking career. However, you need to understand the IBPS SO syllabus well and prepare a fool-proof strategy to succeed in the exam. The exam pattern we list below is related to the posts Rajbhasha Adhikari, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer, Marketing Officer, Law Officer, and IT Officer Scale 1. The exam mode is online with two papers. Prelims and Mains. Prelims will have three sections, while mains will comprise only two, and the total duration will be two hours. The marks for Prelims will be 125 and Mains 60. 


Those clearing the Prelims and Mains will qualify for the interview round. Candidates selected in the interview round qualify for appointment as Specialist Officers.

   Features of the Exam

  • Total duration - 120 minutes.

  • Maximum marks allotted is 125 marks.

  • The marks allotted are Logical Reasoning - 50, English Language - 25, and Reasoning - 50.

  • Wrong answers will invite a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

  • No deduction in marks for questions unattempted.

  • General Awareness section is a must for aspirants applying for Rajbhasha Adhikari and Law Officer.

  • Candidates applying for other SO posts like Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer, IT Officer Scale I, Marketing Officer Scale I need to attempt Quantitative Aptitude,

Important Points to Remember About Prelims and Mains Exam

  • The Preliminary exam’s score is not considered during the final selection. For the final allotment, a cumulative score of the Mains and the interview process will be taken in the ratio of 80:20.

  • The IBPS SO Prelims exam pattern for Rajbhasha Adhikari Scale-I and Law Officer is the same. 

  • The exam pattern for other posts will be different.

  • The Mains Exam consists of one section only, namely Professional Knowledge.

  • For wrong answers, you will invite a penalty in both Prelims and Mains in the Objective tests (a deduction of 0.25 marks).
