1- Union cabinet approves cadre review of ITBP
The Union Cabinet has approved cadre review of Group A General Duty (Executive) Cadre and Non-Gazetted cadre of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, ITBP.
It has also decided to create two new Commands (Western Command at Chandigarh and Eastern Command at Guwahati) to be headed by Additional Director General and assisted by Inspector General.

2-Govt relaxes norms for setting up petrol pumps
The Government has relaxed norms for setting up petrol pumps allowing non-oil companies to venture into the business.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has informed that companies with a net worth of 250 crore rupees will be allowed to sell petrol and diesel subject to condition that they install facilities for marketing of at least one new generation alternate fuel such as CNG, LNG, biofuels or electric vehicle charging within three years of start of operations.
The retailers will necessarily have to set up five per cent of the total outlets in rural areas within five years.

3-BSNL and MTNL to merge, VRS announced for employees
Telecom companies MTNL and BSNL will be merged. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
Till the two companies are fully merged, MTNL will function as a subsidiary of BSNL. The government has decided to take some steps to improve the condition of both companies. 15,000 crore will be raised through sovereign bonds to make these companies more competitive. Apart from this, there will be a provision of Rs 38,000 crore by selling assets.
4G spectrum will be allocated to BSNL and MTNL. Apart from this, the government has decided to offer a very attractive VRS package for the employees of both companies. Under this, the option of VRS will be given to employees who have completed the age of 53 years and six months. They will be given 125 per cent of salary, pension and gratuity till the age of 60 years.
