(SMAT) in the 2025-26 season. Powered by brilliant batting performances from
Ishan Kishan and Kumar Kushagra, Jharkhand defeated Haryana by 69 runs in the
final match played in Pune to claim this prestigious domestic T20 title for the
first time. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is India's premier domestic T20
tournament, featuring teams from across the country. The inaugural competition
in 2006-07 was won by Tamil Nadu under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik.

investing ₹39,620 crore in Shriram Finance. This significant foreign direct
investment will give MUFG a 20% equity stake. The partnership aims to boost

3 President Smt. Droupadi
Murmu inaugurated the National Conference of Chairpersons of Public Service
Commissions, organized by the Telangana Public Service Commission in Hyderabad,
Telangana. Articles 315 to 323 of the Indian Constitution deal with the
formation, structure, functions, and provisions for ensuring the independence
of Public Service Commissions (UPSC and SPSC), providing a constitutional basis
for a fair recruitment process.

4 Every
year, December 19th is celebrated as Goa Liberation Day. On this day, Goa,
Daman, and Diu were liberated from Portuguese rule and integrated into the
Republic of India. This is because on this day in 1961, the Indian Army
launched 'Operation Vijay' and freed Goa, Daman, and Diu from over 450 years of
Portuguese colonial rule, thus granting India true independence. Goa attained
full statehood on May 30, 1987, becoming the 25th state of India, and this day
is celebrated as Goa Statehood Day.

5. Union
Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting regarding the
formation of a dedicated Bureau of Port Security (BoPS) for the security of
ships and ports. The BoPS will be established as a statutory body under the
provisions of Section 13 of the recently enacted Merchant Shipping Act, 2025.
This bureau will be headed by a Director General and will function under the
Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). The BoPS will be responsible
for regulatory and inspection functions related to the security of ships and
port facilities.

अधिनियमित मर्चेंट शिपिंग अधिनियम, 2025 की धारा 13 के प्रावधानों के तहत एक वैधानिक निकाय के रूप में किया
जाएगा। इस ब्यूरो का नेतृत्व एक महानिदेशक करेंगे और यह केंद्रीय पत्तन, पोत परिवहन एवं जलमार्ग मंत्रालय (एमओपीएसडब्ल्यू) के अधीन कार्य करेगा।

8. The
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has now permitted the issuance of
zero-coupon bonds in smaller denominations of ₹10,000. This decision was
announced on December 18, 2025. The aim is to increase investor participation,
improve access to debt instruments, and strengthen India's corporate bond
market. Zero-coupon bonds are debt instruments that do not pay regular
interest. They are issued at a discount and redeemed at their face value upon
maturity. The investor's return comes in the form of price appreciation.

Appreciation) के रूप में मिलता है।
9. Brazil formally handed
over the BRICS chairmanship to India in December 2025, meaning India will lead
BRICS in 2026. This transfer took place during the closing session of the
fourth BRICS Sherpa meeting on December 12, 2025. BRICS is a group of emerging
economies comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Its aim is
to foster cooperation among countries of the Global South in areas such as
development, trade, finance, and global governance reform. In 2021, the 13th
BRICS Summit (a virtual summit) was held under India's chairmanship. This was
the third time India hosted the BRICS summit, following those in 2012 and 2016.

10 The Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of ₹61.95 lakh on Kotak Mahindra Bank for
non-compliance with regulations related to Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD)
accounts, business correspondents, and credit information companies. The RBI
found that the bank had opened another BSBD account in the names of some
customers who already had such accounts with the bank. Kotak Mahindra Bank is a
leading private sector bank and financial services group in India, founded by
Uday Kotak in 1985 and headquartered in Mumbai.
