1 Bhavani Island is located in the middle of the Krishna River in
Vijayawada. Located upstream of the Prakasam Barrage, it is considered one of
the largest river islands in India, with an area of 133 acres. Named after
Goddess Durga (Bhavani), the island is located near the famous Kanaka Durga
Temple. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department closed Bhavani Island due to
flooding.

The 20th National Conference on "Strengthening
Legal Aid Delivery Mechanisms" was held at the Supreme Court under the
aegis of NALSA. NALSA was established in 1995 under the Legal Services
Authorities Act of 1987 to provide free legal aid to the poor and vulnerable
sections and to facilitate amicable dispute resolution. The Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court is its chairperson, and another senior-most judge is its
executive chairman.

4 Maharashtra
has signed a letter of intent with Elon Musk's Starlink to launch
satellite-based internet services. This makes Maharashtra the first state in
India to collaborate with the company. The partnership will bring connectivity
to remote districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv and
support the Digital Maharashtra initiative. The move aims to strengthen
digital, EV, coastal, and disaster-resilient programs.

Bank of India (SBI) has approved the divestment of a 6.3% stake (32 million
shares) in its subsidiary SBI Funds Management Limited (SBIFML) through an
initial public offering (IPO). Co-promoter, Amundi India Holding, will sell a
3.7% stake, taking the total IPO size to 10% equity. Expected to be listed in
2026, SBIFML will become SBI's third listed subsidiary after SBI, SBI Cards,
and SBI Life Insurance.

7 The Maldives has become
the first country in the world to implement a generational tobacco ban,
effective November 1, 2025. The ban bans the sale and use of tobacco by all people
born after January 1, 2007, including tourists. The law, approved by President
Mohamed Muizzu, also bans vaping and e-cigarettes for all ages, with stiff
penalties. This move is in line with the World Health Organization's FCTC
goals.

9. November 9 is celebrated
as National Legal Services Day to commemorate the Legal Services Authorities
Act, 1987, which led to the establishment of organizations providing free legal
aid to the needy. On this day, legal awareness camps are organized by State
Legal Services Authorities across the country to promote the availability of
free legal aid and other services provided by Legal Services Authorities. The
Act established a three-tier system for providing free and competent legal
services: the National Legal Services Authority (headed by the Chief Justice of
India), State Legal Services Authorities (headed by the Chief Justice of the
High Court), and District Legal Services Authorities (headed by the District
Judge).

10 In a landmark move
toward gender equality and workplace inclusion, the Karnataka government has
approved 12 days of paid menstrual leave per year for women. The policy will
apply to both the government and private sectors, making the state the first in
India to take such a comprehensive step.
