1 NPCI and RBI have launched a new biometric and wearable
glasses-based authentication system for UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
transactions, unveiled at the Global Fintech Fest 2025 in Mumbai. The new
system allows users to authenticate payments using facial recognition or
Aadhaar-linked fingerprints. Joint account holders can now require multiple
signatories for transactions.

2 PayPal CEO Alex Kriss has announced that
India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now the first payment system to be
integrated into the company's new global payments platform, PayPal World. This
partnership marks a major milestone for PayPal and India's fintech ecosystem,
expanding UPI's global influence and highlighting its transformative role in
digital payments.

3. India's third ultra-large gas carrier (VLGC) Shivalik was welcomed
under the Indian flag. Built in South Korea, Shivalik has a capacity of 82,000
cubic meters (CBM) and is equipped with advanced safety, temperature control
and operational systems. The vessel joins the Shipping Corporation of India
Limited (SCI) fleet, which already includes VLGCs Sahyadri and Anandmayi. The
initiative is expected to contribute to the country's efforts to save $75
billion (Rs 6 lakh crore) in foreign exchange annually paid as freight charges
to foreign shipping lines.

4. The 2025
Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson,
and Omar M. Yaghi for their contributions to creating large-space molecular
structures for the flow of gases and chemicals. This helps in water harvesting,
absorbing carbon dioxide, storing toxic gases, and catalyzing chemical reactions.
The three laureates will receive 11 million Swedish crowns (about ₹10 crore).

6. The RBI has launched a retail sandbox,
where financial technology companies will test digital currencies until 2022.
This will develop new, secure, and convenient methods of digital payments.
Companies supporting online payments will use this area to complete
transactions using digital currencies. The RBI believes that before fully
launching digital currencies, they should be used in a controlled environment
so that any issues can be resolved promptly.

7. Union Home
Minister Amit Shah has changed his email platform, switching from Gmail to Zoho
Mail. This indigenous technology is rapidly gaining popularity and is
considered an important step towards digital self-reliance. A government
circular states that officials should familiarize themselves with the new
platform, and assistance will be available from the CMIS department of the
National Informatics Institute (NIC). The Zoho software solution was developed
by Sridhar Vembu of Chennai.

8. Addressing
the inaugural ceremony of the eighth session of the International Solar
Alliance Assembly, Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi said that
India's solar power generation capacity has touched the figure of 125 GW,
making the country the third largest solar power producer. The eighth meeting
of the International Solar Alliance will be held from October 27 to 30 at
Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Bijli
Yojana [2024], more than 20 lakh households are already availing the benefits
of solar power on their rooftops.

9. The Indian government's
debt could decline to 77 percent of GDP by FY 2031 and 71 percent by FY 2035,
from the current 81 percent. According to a CareAge Ratings report released on
October 8, this decline in debt to GDP ratio will be possible due to the
government's fiscal consolidation efforts and a stable GDP growth rate of
around 6.5 percent. CareAge Ratings (now CareAge Group) is an Indian company headquartered
in Mumbai. It provides credit ratings, research, risk management, and advisory
services and is considered the second largest credit rating agency in India.

10. Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has been
appointed as the official ambassador of the English Premier League (EPL) in
India. This is the first-of-its-kind appointment that will serve as a bridge

Samson is also the brand ambassador for Kerala Blasters FC, a leading team in
the Indian Super League (ISL).
