1 The fifth Khelo India University Games (KIUG) will be held in
seven cities of Rajasthan: Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota and
Bharatpur. The 12-day event will feature 23 medal-winning sports and one
demonstration sport – kho-kho – with over 5,000 university athletes from across
the country participating. New sports include beach volleyball, canoeing and
kayaking, and cycling.

2 The Sustainable Aquaculture in Mangrove Ecosystems (SAIME) model
has received global technical validation from the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Developed by the Nature Environment
and Wildlife Society (NEWS) in the Sundarbans of West Bengal, the model
integrates mangrove coverage (5%-30%) into shrimp ponds to promote
ecosystem-based, climate-resilient aquaculture.

3. In a historic move, the South American country of Uruguay has
passed a law legalizing euthanasia. On October 15, 2025, the country's Senate
approved the law by a majority vote, making Uruguay the first predominantly
Catholic nation in Latin America to do so. Uruguay's new law grants the right
to euthanasia to those suffering from incurable and unbearable illnesses.

4. The
'Shraddhanjali' scheme is a Chhattisgarh government scheme that provides
financial assistance of ₹2,000 upon the death of the head of the family or the
earning member of the family. This assistance is disbursed to the family within
24 hours for the funeral of the deceased. Its purpose: to provide immediate
financial assistance upon the death of a earning member of the family to
complete the funeral rites.

6. Vivek Menon is the first Asian Chair of
the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC), having been elected at the recent
World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi. He is a renowned Indian wildlife
conservationist and founder of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI). He is the
Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) for the term 2025-2029, and
the first Asian to hold this position.
