1 Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), established in 1941, has been
granted Mini Ratna status by the Government of India. Mini Ratna status is
awarded to public sector companies (PSUs) that are consistently profitable and
have a positive net worth. They must have earned a pre-tax profit of ₹30 crore
or more in at least one of these three years. The company's net worth should be
positive.

2 The report is published by Irish humanitarian organisation
Concern Worldwide, German aid agency Welthungerhilfe and the Institute for International
Law of Peace and Armed Conflict. The 2025 Global Hunger Index report ranks
India 102nd out of 123 countries, falling in the category of 'severe' hunger.
According to the report, factors such as conflict, climate change, economic
instability, and a reduction in humanitarian aid are slowing progress on global
hunger, making it difficult to achieve the goal of zero hunger by 2030.

3. The Uttarakhand government has amended the Uniform Civil Code
(UCC) to allow citizens of Nepali, Bhutanese, and Tibetan origin living in the
state to register their marriages without an Aadhaar card. Foreign nationals
will now be able to register their marriages by uploading their citizenship
certificate, residence certificate, passport, or valid identity card, whichever
is more acceptable. The UCC also makes marriage and divorce registration
mandatory, failing which the couple will be deprived of all government
benefits. The code also has strict provisions for not registering live-in
relationships.

Payments Bank has been awarded contracts for two toll plazas to implement the
Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system based on FASTag automatic
number plate recognition. Jio Payments Bank, a digital-first payments bank and
a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services Limited, has been awarded the management
of two toll plazas at Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura on the Gurugram-Jaipur
stretch. The MLFF tolling system is a toll collection system that involves
identifying and classifying vehicles and charging tolls.

5. UNESCO officially
launched the Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects at MONDIACULT 2025, the
first global initiative of its kind. It was developed in response to calls from
Member States for coordinated action against illicit trafficking. Financial
support for the museum comes from Saudi Arabia and it is implemented in
collaboration with INTERPOL. It was launched at the MONDIACULT 2025 conference
in Barcelona, Spain.

6. India has proposed supplying the Akash
missile system to Brazil. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh discussed the issue
with Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. The Akash system, developed by
the DRDO, demonstrated its capabilities during Operation Sindoor last May,
shooting down Pakistani drones and missiles. This surface-to-air missile system
can hit targets up to 25 kilometers.

7. Jal Jeevan
Mission has crossed a historic milestone towards ensuring rural drinking water
facility across the country. According to the Jal Shakti Ministry, till date 15
crore 71 lakh rural households have been provided with tap water connections,
covering more than 80 per cent of the rural households in the country. Jal
Jeevan Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 with the
aim of ensuring supply of pure drinking water through tap to every rural
household by 2024.

8. The
Bombay High Court has stated that travel is a fundamental right of every
individual and should not be hindered. The court issued this ruling while
hearing a petition filed by 76-year-old Sharad Khatu, whose passport renewal
was blocked due to an old case. Citing a Supreme Court order, the bench said
that the right to travel abroad is a fundamental right under Article 21 of the
Constitution.

9. World Food Day was
observed on October 16, with the aim of promoting global awareness about food
security, sustainability, and zero hunger. This year the theme was: Sustainable
Food Systems for a Healthy Planet. The day was first celebrated in 1981. The
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a specialized agency of the United
Nations, was founded on this day in 1945. 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of
the founding of the FAO.

Attorney General: In criminal contempt (or some other cases), obtaining the
consent of the Attorney General is a necessary step before filing a contempt
petition. This ensures that the matter is serious and warrants further action.
The Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 also aims to maintain the dignity and
authority of the court.
