1. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India today
announced the appointment of acclaimed actress, producer and entrepreneur Kriti
Sanon as its Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality. The announcement was made
at an event in Mumbai, underlining their joint commitment to promoting gender
equality and empowering women and girls across India.

2 ISRO's
second launch facility at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu is expected to be
operational by December 2026. Spread over 2,300 acres, this spaceport is
specially designed for Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs) and will support
25 launches per year. Satellites launched eastward from sites near the equator
will get an initial speed equal to the velocity at the Earth's surface (about
460 m/s). This site has been chosen for this reason

3. World number one Aryna Sabalenka retained her title at the US Open
by defeating Amanda Anisimova in straight sets and won her fourth Grand Slam
title. She thus became the first female player after Serena Williams to win
this tournament two years in a row. This tournament is one of the oldest tennis
championships in the world. The US Open is the fourth and final of the annual
Grand Slams of tennis (the other tournaments are the Australian Open, French
Open and Wimbledon Championships).

4. Punjab
National Bank (PNB) on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with
the Rajasthan government to provide financial support of Rs 21,000 crore under
the state's Rising Rajasthan initiative, which aims to promote socio-economic
progress through its extensive network and digital resources. The current MD
and CEO of PNB is Ashok Chandra.

5. On September 5, 2025,
Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the country's first
port-based green hydrogen pilot plant and several development projects at
V.O.Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu). Deendayal Port
Authority (DPA) has commissioned the country's first 'Make in India' green
hydrogen plant in Kandla, Gujarat. This initiative is an important milestone in
India's maritime decarbonization and adoption of green energy.

6. Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra
Ramgoolam will visit India on a State Visit from September 9 to 16. "As
India's key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean region, Mauritius holds a
special position in the Indian Ocean (mutual and inclusive advancement for
security and development across the region) and 'Neighbourhood First Policy'
and is a key partner in the Global South."

7. Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy has won the Best Director award in
the Orizzonti category at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. The category covers
new and independent films. Her film, "Songs of Forgotten Trees", was
the only Indian entry in the category and tells the story of two migrant women
in Mumbai. The award was announced by Julia Ducournau, president of the
Orizzonti jury.

8. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes completely between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight from falling on the Moon and causing the Moon to move into the Earth's shadow. The Earth's atmosphere refracts the sunlight, allowing only red light to reach the Moon, and the Moon appears red or copper-coloured. This phenomenon is also called a 'blood moon'. During this time, the Moon completely enters the Earth's deepest shadow (umbra).

9. India defeated defending
champions South Korea 4-1 in the Asia Cup hockey final at the Rajgir Sports
Complex in Bihar on Sunday to secure a direct berth in the FIH World Cup to be
jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from August 14-30 next year. This
is India's fourth Asia Cup title, having won the tournament in 2003, 2007 and
2017.

strategy of cutting output from April and has already raised quotas by about
2.5 million barrels per day, about 2.4% of world demand, to boost market share
amid pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to lower oil prices.
