Staff Selection Commission will hold Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2025 for filling up of various Group „B‟ and Group „C‟ posts in different Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations of Government of India and various Constitutional Bodies/Statutory Bodies/ Tribunals, etc.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2025:-

 Structure of the Examination

The Computer-Based Examination (CBE) for SSC CGL 2025 will be conducted in two tiers:

  • Tier-I: Preliminary Examination

  • Tier-II: Main Examination

 Normalization of Marks (If Multiple Shifts are Conducted)

If the CBE is held in multiple shifts, the marks obtained by candidates will be normalized using a procedure published by the Commission. This normalization process will ensure that the scores are fair and consistent across all shifts. The normalized scores will be used to determine the final merit and cut-off marks for the exam.

Tentative Answer Keys and Representations
  • After the Computer-Based Examinations, the tentative answer keys will be published on the official website of the Commission.

  • Candidates can review these answer keys and submit online representations if they feel there is an error in any question. Representations must be submitted within the stipulated time limit and require a payment of ₹100/- per question (non-refundable).

  • Important Note: Representations submitted through other modes, such as letters, emails, or applications, will not be entertained.

  • All representations will be scrutinized before finalizing the answer keys. The final decision of the Commission regarding the answer keys will be final.

  • Once the final answer keys are determined, they will be used for processing the results of the Computer-Based Examination and will be uploaded on the website of the Commission after the results are declared.

 Tentative Examination Schedule
  • The schedule of examinations mentioned in the notice is tentative.

  • Any changes to the exam schedule or other relevant information will only be communicated through the official website of the Commission. Candidates are advised to regularly check the website for updates.

 Use of Metric System in the Question Papers
  • The Metric System of Weights and Measures will be used in the question papers, wherever necessary. Candidates should be familiar with these units for better understanding and calculation.

 No Re-Evaluation/Re-Checking of Scores
  • No re-evaluation or re-checking of the scores will be allowed for any stage of the examination.

  • Candidates are advised to carefully review their answers before submitting, as no correspondence regarding the re-evaluation of scores will be entertained.

 Conducting Paper-I and Paper-II
  • Tier-II will consist of two papers, Paper-I and Paper-II, which will be held in separate shifts or on different days.

 Paper-I (Compulsory for All Candidates)
  • Paper-I is compulsory for all candidates appearing in Tier-II.

  • The paper will cover the following sections:

    • Section-I:

      • A: Mathematical Abilities

      • B: Reasoning and General Intelligence

    • Section-II:

      • A: English Language and Comprehension

      • B: General Awareness

    • Section-III: Computer Knowledge Test

    • Section-IV: Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)

 Paper-II (Specific to Certain Posts)
  • Paper-II will only be for candidates who are applying for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation or Statistical Investigator Grade-II in the office of the Registrar General of India (M/o Home Affairs), and who have been shortlisted after Tier-I.

 Detailed Breakdown of Paper-I
  • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions on the same day:

    • Session-I will include Sections I, II, and III, and will last for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

    • Session-II will include Section-IV, the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST), and will last for only 15 minutes.

 Session-I (Paper-I)
  • Section-I:
    • Duration: 1 hour for both Mathematical Abilities (Part A) and Reasoning and General Intelligence (Part B).

    • After 1 hour, the section will automatically close.

  • Section-II:
    • Duration: 1 hour for English Language and Comprehension and General Awareness.

    • After 1 hour, this section will automatically close.

  • Section-III:
    • Duration: 15 minutes for the Computer Knowledge Test.

  • After Session-I is completed, candidates will get a break before Session-II.

 Session-II (Paper-I)
  • Section-IV:
    • Duration: 15 minutes for the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST).

Mandatory Qualification for Paper-I
  • It is mandatory for candidates to qualify in all sections of Paper-I separately.

 Exam Type and Negative Marking
  • Tier-II (Paper-I & Paper-II) will consist of Objective Type, Multiple-Choice Questions.

    • Section-IV (DEST) will be an exception, being a skill test.

  • Negative Marking:

    • 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Section-III of Paper-I.

    • 0.50 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer in Paper-II.

 Computer Knowledge Test (Section-III)
  • The Computer Knowledge Test (Section-III) is mandatory but qualifying in nature.

  • For posts requiring Computer Proficiency (e.g., Assistant Section Officer, Assistant in various Ministries), higher qualifying standards will be set compared to other posts.

 Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)
  • Section-IV of Paper-I will include the Data Entry Speed Test for a duration of 15 minutes.

    • DEST Skill Test involves typing approximately 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

  • Exemption for PwBD (Orthopedic Handicapped) Candidates:

    • PwBD candidates (who provide a valid medical certificate from the competent medical authority) are exempted from DEST if they are permanently unfit due to physical disability.

    • However, this exemption is not applicable for posts requiring Computer Proficiency or DEST (except for Tax Assistant in CBDT).

  • Compensatory Time:
    • PwBD candidates eligible for scribes will be given additional compensatory time of 5 minutes for DEST.


Key Highlights for Candidates
  • Paper-I is compulsory for all candidates, whereas Paper-II is only for specific posts (JSO and Statistical Investigator).

  • Candidates must qualify all sections of Paper-I separately.

  • Negative marking is applicable in both Paper-I and Paper-II.

  • The DEST is mandatory for posts requiring Data Entry and is qualifying in nature.

  • PwBD candidates may be exempt from DEST under specific conditions.

  
How to Apply for SSC CGL 2025: Step-by-Step Guide
Submission of Application
  • Applications for SSC CGL 2025 must be submitted online via the SSC Headquarters website: https://ssc.gov.in.

  • You can also apply through the mySSC mobile application, which is available for download from the Google Play Store.

  • For detailed instructions, refer to Annexure-III and Annexure-IV of the official notice, along with the Notice dated 02.06.2025 on the mobile app.

  • Sample proformas for One-Time Registration and Online Application Forms are attached as Annexure-IIIA and Annexure-IVA.

One-Time Registration (OTR)
  • Candidates who have not yet generated their One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website will need to do so.

  • OTR on the old SSC website (ssc.nic.in) will not be valid on the new website.

  • After completing the OTR, candidates can proceed to fill the online application form.

  • The OTR will remain valid for all future exams applied for on the new website.

  • Detailed instructions for OTR are available in Annexure-III.

Aadhaar-Based Authentication
  • Candidates are advised to opt for Aadhaar-based authentication during the OTR process. This step follows the Aadhaar Policy as per the guidelines published on the SSC website.

  • Benefits of Aadhaar Authentication:

    • Your application will not be rejected due to issues with your photograph or signature.

    • Candidates opting for Aadhaar Authentication will not be required to produce a recent colour photograph or original valid photo-identity proof when attending the Computer Based Examination.

Photograph Requirements
  • While applying, candidates are not required to have a pre-existing photograph.

  • The application module will capture a photograph of the candidate as part of the application process. Here’s how to capture your photograph correctly:

    1. Choose a location with good lighting and a plain background.

    2. Ensure the camera is positioned at eye level.

    3. Sit or stand directly in front of the camera, looking straight ahead.

    4. Ensure the face is fully within the designated area and not too close or too far.

    5. Do not wear a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles while taking the photograph.

Photograph Consistency
  • The appearance of the candidate in the examination should match the photograph uploaded in the application form.

  • Applications with photographs that do not comply with the guidelines (e.g., wearing glasses, caps, or masks) will be rejected.

  • Note: Applications submitted via Aadhaar-based authentication will not be rejected on these grounds.

Signature Requirements
  • Upload a scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB) with dimensions of approximately 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).

  • Applications with inappropriate photographs or blurred/minute signatures will be rejected unless submitted through Aadhaar-based authentication.

PwBD/PwD Candidates
  • Candidates seeking reservation or scribe benefits, or both, must upload a Certificate of Disability as per Annexure-I, Annexure-IA, and Annexure-XII to XIV, depending on the applicable category.

Important Dates
  • The last date for submission of online applications is 04 July 2025 (23:00 hrs).

  • Candidates are strongly advised to submit their applications well before the last date to avoid issues related to website traffic or connectivity problems.

Submission Deadline
  • The Commission will not be responsible for candidates who cannot submit their applications due to reasons beyond its control, including issues related to website traffic.

Review and Submit Application
  • Before submitting your online application, ensure that:

    • All details in the form are filled out correctly.

    • The photograph and signature meet the required standards.

  • Use the Preview/Print option to verify all the information before submission.

  • Keep a copy of the application for your records.


SSC CGL Syllabus Tier-I 2025

General Intelligence and Reasoning: This section would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc. The topics are, Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Drawing inferences, Punched hole/ pattern- folding & un-folding, Figural Pattern- folding and completion, Indexing, Address matching, Date & city matching, Classification of centre codes/roll numbers, Small & Capital letters/ numbers coding, decoding and classification, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Other sub-topics, if any.

General Awareness: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

Quantitative Aptitude: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage. Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

English Comprehension: Candidate’s ability to understand correct English, his/ her basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested.

Note: The questions in Parts A, B, & D will be of a level commensurate with the essential qualification viz. Graduation and questions in Part-C will be of 10th standard level.


SSC CGL Syllabus for Tier II 2025

Part A of Section-I of Paper-I (Mathematical Abilities):

Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers.

Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time and work.

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.

Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.

Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.

Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities

Statistics and probability: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart; Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, standard deviation; calculation of simple probabilities.

Part B of Section-I of Paper-I (Reasoning and General Intelligence):

Questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. These will include questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Drawing inferences, Figural Classification, Punched hole/ pattern-folding & unfolding, Semantic Series, Figural Patternfolding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Coding and de-coding, Numerical operations, Other sub-topics, if any.

Part A of Section-II of Paper-I (English Language And Comprehension):

Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and their correct usage; Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage. To test comprehension, three or more paragraphs will be given and questions based on those will be asked. At least one paragraph should be a simple one based on a book or a story and the other two paragraphs should be on current affairs, based on a report or an editorial.

Part B of Section-II of Paper-I (General Awareness):

Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

Section-III of Paper-I (Computer Proficiency):

Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), input/ output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back- up devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer. Keyboard shortcuts.

Software: Windows Operating system including basics of Microsoft Office like MS word, MS Excel and Power Point etc..

Working with Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking.

Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojan etc.) and preventive measures.


Paper-II (Statistics):

Collection, Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data – Primary and Secondary data, Methods of data collection; Tabulation of data; Graphs and charts; Frequency distributions; Diagrammatic presentation of frequency distributions.

Measures of Central Tendency- Common measures of central tendency – mean median and mode; Partition values- quartiles, deciles, percentiles.

Measures of Dispersion- Common measures dispersion – range, quartile deviations, mean deviation and standard deviation, Measures of relative dispersion.

Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis- Different types of moments and their relationship; meaning of skewness and kurtosis; different measures of skewness and kurtosis. .

Correlation and Regression- Scatter diagram; simple correlationcoefficient; simple regression lines; Spearman’s rank correlation; Measures of association of attributes; Multiple regression; Multiple and partial correlation (For three variables only). .

Probability Theory- Meaning of probability; Different definitions of probability; Conditional probability; Compound probability; Independent events; Bayes theorem. .

Random Variable and Probability Distributions- Random variable; Probability functions; Expectation and Variance of a random variable; Higher moments of a random variable; Binomial, Poisson, Normal and Exponential distributions; Joint distribution of two random variable (discrete). .

Sampling Theory- Concept of population and sample; Parameter and statistic, Sampling and non-sampling errors; Probability and nonprobability sampling techniques (simple random sampling, stratified sampling, multistage sampling, multiphase sampling, cluster sampling, systematic sampling, purposive sampling, convenience sampling and quota sampling); Sampling distribution(statement only); Sample size decisions. .

Statistical Inference- Point estimation and interval estimation, Properties of a good estimator, Methods of estimation (Moments method, Maximum likelihood method, Least squares method), Testing of hypothesis, Basic concept of testing, Small sample and large sample tests, Tests based on Z, t, Chi-square and F statistic, Confidence intervals. .

Analysis of Variance- Analysis of one-way classified data and two-way classified data. .

Time Series Analysis- Components of time series, Determinations of trend component by different methods, Measurement of seasonal variation by different methods. .

Index Numbers- Meaning of Index Numbers, Problems in the construction of index numbers, Types of index number, Different formulae, Base shifting and splicing of index numbers, Cost of living Index Numbers, Uses of Index Numbers. .

Questions in Part A of Section- I of Paper-I (Mathematical Abilities) will be of Matriculation Level, in Part A of Section- II of Paper-I (English Language and Comprehension) of 10+2 Level and in Paper-II of Graduation Level.
