IBPS RRB Clerk 2022: Syllabus, Exam Pattern & Preparation Strategy

The Institution of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will soon release the official notification for the IBPS RRB Clerk exam 2022. The examination is conducted to recruit the most eligible candidates for the clerical posts in the public sector.


To prepare for the IBPS RRB Clerk exam, it is essential to know the exam pattern, syllabus, and some important preparation tips, which will be discussed further in this article. 

IBPS RRB Clerk Exam Pattern

The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of prelims and mains exam. It is necessary for the candidates to obtain a minimum score in each test of the mains examination to be shortlisted for provisional allotment. The final selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the mains exam.


  • IBPS RRB Clerk exam will be held in online mode.

  • The exam paper will be based on the multiple-choice questions (MCQs) pattern.

  • All the sections of this exam (except the English Language & Hindi Language sections) will be available in English and Hindi. 

  • It is mandatory to clear sectional as well as overall cutoffs.

  • There will be a negative marking for every wrong answer with a deduction of 1/4th marks.

IBPS RRB Clerk Syllabus

IBPS RRB Clerk selection process comprises two written examinations, namely prelims and mains. No interview is conducted for the position of Clerk. Candidates are required to clear the prelims in order to qualify for the mains examination.

IBPS RRB Clerk Preparation Tips 2022


The RRB preliminary exam is conducted to shortlist candidates for the mains exam, and they need to clear the cut-offs. Hence, students are recommended to give the best shot in their preparation for the prelims exam. 


Both the sections of the prelims exam are there in the main exam. Hence, preparing effectively for these two sections will also help in the main exam. The IBPS RRB Clerk preparation tips for all the subjects of prelims and mains exam are given below:

For English

  • Aspirants should maintain proficiency in the English language. Good command of the language will help candidates fetch higher scores.

  • The candidates should have a conceptual understanding of the English language and basic grammatical questions should be thoroughly revised.

  • Students are advised to read the newspapers and magazines regularly.

  • Learn at least 10-12 new words daily to improve your vocabulary. 

  • Try to solve different types of grammatical questions daily.

For Numerical Ability

  • Learn the tables, squares, cubes, and formulas to solve the questions quickly. 

  • Attend IBPS RRB mock test papers to know the type of questions.
