1. India, Pakistan hike defence spending in 2018: SIPRI report
India increased its defence spending by 3.1 per cent to USD 66.5 billion in 2018 while Pakistan hiked it by a hefty 11 per cent to touch USD 11.4 billion, according to a new report on global military expenditure released on Monday by a leading Swedish think tank.
The total world military expenditure rose to USD 1,822 billion in 2018, representing an increase of 2.6 per cent from 2017, The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in its annual report.
The five biggest spenders in 2018 were the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, India and France, which together accounted for 60 per cent of global military spending, it said.

भारत का रक्षा बजट 2018 में 3.1 प्रतिशत बढ़कर 66.5 अरब डॉलर पर पहुंच गया जबकि इस दौरान पाकिस्तान का रक्षा बजट 11 प्रतिशत की जोरदार वृद्धि के साथ 11.4 अरब डॉलर हो गया। स्वीडन के एक प्रमुख थिंक टैंक द्वारा जारी नयी रिपोर्ट में यह जानकारी दी गई है।
वैश्विक सैन्य खर्च पर जारी इस रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि वर्ष 2018 में दुनियाभर में सैन्य साजोसामान पर कुल खर्च 1,822 अरब डॉलर पर पहुंच गया, जो इससे पिछले साल के मुकाबले 2.6 प्रतिशत अधिक रहा। स्टॉकहोम इंटरनेशनल पीस रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट (एसआईपीआरआई) ने अपनी सालाना रिपोर्ट में यह जानकारी दी है।
रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक 2018 के दौरान सैन्य साजोसामान पर सबसे ज्यादा खर्च करने वाले पांच देशों में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, चीन, सऊदी अरब, भारत और फ्रांस शामिल हैं। इन पांचों देशों का रक्षा खर्च दुनियाभर में हुए कुल रक्षा खर्च का 60 प्रतिशत तक रहा है।
2. China, Pakistan sign agreement on space exploration, manned missions
China and Pakistan have signed an agreement on space exploration, marking a new phase in space science cooperation including manned missions between the all-weather allies.
The agreement was signed on April 27 during the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to China for the 2nd Belt and Road Forum (BRF), the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said in a statement.

चीन के राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष प्रशासन (सीएनएसए) ने एक बयान में बताया कि पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री इमरान खान की दूसरे बेल्ट एंड रोड फोरम के लिए चीन की यात्रा के दौरान 27 अप्रैल को इस समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।
3. Religious freedom in India continued 'downward trend' in 2018: USCIRF
Citing India as one of the countries where it is increasingly difficult to separate religion and politics, a US federal government appointed commission on Monday alleged that religious freedom in India continued a "downward trend" in 2018.
US Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), in its annual report on international religious freedom, said that in several countries where it found deteriorating religious freedom conditions in 2018, it also found increased "securitisation and politicisation" of religion.

अमेरिका की संघीय सरकार की ओर से नियुक्त आयोग ने भारत को ऐसा देश बताया है जहां धर्म एवं राजनीति को अलग करना धीरे-धीरे बेहद मुश्किल होता जा रहा है साथ ही आरोप लगाया कि भारत में 2018 में भी धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता कम हुई।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता के अमेरिकी आयोग (यूएससीआईआरएफ) ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता पर अपनी वार्षिक रिपोर्ट में कहा कि कई देशों में जहां उसने 2018 में धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता की स्थितियां खराब होती पाईं, वहां यह भी पाया कि धर्म का “राजनीतिकरण एवं प्रतिभूतिकरण” भी बढ़ा है।
4. G Sathiyan becomes first Indian to break into top-25 of ITTF rankings
India’s G Sathiyan scaled new heights in his rapidly rising career by becoming the first Indian to break into the top-25 of world rankings.
Sathiyan rose four spots to be 24th in the latest ITTF rankings, following his impressive sixth place finish in the Asia Cup in Yokohama earlier this month. Last week, he was the sole Indian to reach the round of 32 in the World Championships in Hungary.

भारत के जी साथियान टेबल टेनिस विश्व रैंकिंग में शीर्ष 25 में जगह बनाने वाले पहले भारतीय बने।
नवीनतम आईटीटीएफ रैंकिंग में साथियान चार स्थान के फायदे से 24वें पायदान पर पहुंच गए हैं। उन्होंने इस महीने योकोहामा में एशिया कप में छठा स्थान हासिल किया था जिसका उन्हें फायदा मिला। वह हंगरी में विश्व चैंपियनशिप के राउंड आफ 32 में जगह बनाने वाले एकमात्र भारत थे।
