The Second phase of rural connectivity project BharatNet gets approval.
Setting the stage to take forward the Centre’s flagship rural connectivity project BharatNet, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday is learned to have cleared the proposal for the second phase of the project, under which 1,50,000 gram panchayats would be connected with optic fiber cable (OFC). In the first phase of the project, 1,00,000 gram panchayats were connected as of end March, albeit two years after it was originally intended to. The original target set by the government for laying down OFC in 1 lakh gram panchayats was March 2015 but was later advanced to March 2017.

केन्द्र की प्रमुख ग्रामीण कनेक्टिविटी परियोजना भारतनेट को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए मंच की स्थापना के लिए केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने बुधवार को परियोजना के दूसरे चरण के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है, जिसके तहत 1,50,000 ग्राम पंचायतों को ऑप्टिक फाइबर केबल (ओएफसी) से जोड़ा जाएगा। परियोजना के पहले चरण में, मार्च के अंत तक 1,00,000 ग्राम पंचायत जुड़े थे, हालांकि मूल रूप से इसका उद्देश्य दो साल बाद किया गया था। 1 लाख ग्राम पंचायतों में ओएफसी को बिछाने के लिए सरकार द्वारा निर्धारित मूल लक्ष्य मार्च 2015 था, लेकिन बाद में मार्च 2017 तक बढ़ा दिया गया था।
