अफगानिस्तान एवं पाकिस्तान के मामलों के विशेष प्रतिनिधि के रूप में तीन दशकों तक सेवाएं देने वाले रिचर्ड ओल्सन अपने इस पद से सेवानिवृत्त हो गये हैं। इसके साथ ही इस पद के भविष्य पर प्रश्नचिह्न लग गया था जिसका सृजन मौजूदा प्रशासन में किया गया था।
