विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने श्रीलंका को मलेरिया मुक्त घोषित करते हुए इसे ‘‘जन स्वास्थ्य के क्षेत्र में असाधारण उपलब्धि बतायी।’’ विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने इस उष्णकटीबंधिय द्वीपय देश को मलेरिया उन्मूलन का प्रमाणपत्र दिया। मच्छरों के काटने से होने वाली यह एक जानलेवा बीमारी है।

Sri Lanka was declared malaria-free by the World Health Organisation which called it a “remarkable public health achievement”. WHO certified the tropical island nation of having eliminated malaria – a life-threatening disease caused by mosquito bites.
