In the digital era of Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and hundreds of social networking websites, we are losing the importance of postal services. We became habitual of expressing everything in the limit 60 words. The enthusiasm of receiving the post cards from our loved ones is diminishing with the Facebook posts and WhatsApp statuses.
World Post Day is celebrated every year on 9th of October. This day marks the anniversary of Universal Postal Union which was established in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared as World Post Day in 1969 by UPU congress in Tokyo, Japan. Till 1969 to now, more than 150 countries celebrate this day in their unique way by organizing different activities in their respective countries. Most of them introduce new postal collections and services like stamps, postcards etc. on this day.
On this World Post Day We should collectively create awareness about the importance of posts in our lives. In the fast moving lives of 21st century, we all want everything right here within seconds. But we are somehow losing the essence of life which lies in some traditional ways of communications. Let’s write together this World Post Day.
