1. BALK (VERB): Prevent

Synonyms: obstruct, hinder                

Antonyms: allow, permit

Example Sentence:

Somehow I managed to balk laughing.

2. AVOW (VERB): Acknowledge

Synonyms: declare, concede                

Antonyms: ignore, refuse

Example Sentence:

Nobody avows my work, moreover I don’t like to blow my own trumpet.


Synonyms: grand, eminent             

Antonyms: ignoble, despicable

Example Sentence:

He is an august man I think Police is barking up the wrong tree.

4. ALACRITY (NOUN): Promptness

Synonyms: alertness, avidity            

Antonyms: dullness, lethargy

Example Sentence:

India showed alacrity in extending the olive branch to Pakistan.

5. ADO (NOUN): Fuss

Synonyms: bother, confusion    

Antonyms: calm, peace

Example Sentence:

It has made great ado already, let’s call it a day.

7. ARID (ADJECTIVE): Uninterested

Synonyms: dreary, dry                  

Antonyms: humid, damp

Example Sentence:

Antonyms: apathetic, cold

Example Sentence:

He is an avid man with larger than life perspective.


Synonyms: mystic, occult          

 Antonyms: known, familiar

Example Sentence:

10. ADDLE (VERB): Confuse

Synonyms: baffle, befuddle    Antonyms: explain, clarify

Example Sentence:

Everybody witnessed, you got addled yesterday, your debate had more holes than a swiss cheese.
