DEFINITION: A set of instruction is known as a program and a collection of the program is known as Software.
The first programmer in the history of the computer is lady Ada Lovelace.
1. System Software:
It is a term referring to any computer software which manages and controls the hardware so that application software can perform a task.
System Software has three types:
- Operating system (Windows , Linux , Unix , Mac , Android)
- Language Translator (Compiler, Assembler, Interpreter )
- Utility software etc.(Device Drivers, Antivirus, compression software)
2. Application Software:
Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end users.
- Application software is a subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly and thoroughly to a task that the user wishes to perform.
- Examples (MS OFFICE, Web Browsers, Coral Draw, Etc.)
Don’t Forget:
Shareware: It is a trial version software, and also known as trial ware, demo ware.
Example: Antivirus
Freeware: It is a total free of cost software. It does not require any payment or licensing fee.
Example: Web Browser, VLC Media Player, etc.
Open Source: It is a software that is freely available to anyone in a form that Software: can be easily modified.
Example: UNIX, Linux, Ubuntu, Android.
