Sri Lanka-born Canadian literary icon Michael Ondaatje's 'The English Patient' has won the special one-off Golden Man Booker Prize to mark the 50th anniversary of the prestigious literary award.
'The English Patient' is a tale of love and conflict during World War II.
The 74-year-old author beat the Man Booker Prize's previous 51 winners including Indian-origin VS Naipaul for his 1971 winner 'In a Free State'; Salman Rushdie for 'Midnight's Children' (1981), Arundhati Roy for 'The God of Small Things' (1997); Kiran Desai for 'The Inheritance of Loss' (2006); and Aravind Adiga for 'The White Tiger' (2008).

श्रीलंका में जन्मे कनाडाई लेखक माइकल ओंडाटेजे की पुस्तक ‘ द इंग्लिश पेशेंट ’ ने गोल्डन मैन बुकर पुरस्कार जीता है। इस पुस्तक को इस प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार के 50 साल पूरे होने पर इस सम्मान से नवाजा गया।
‘द इंग्लिश पेशेंट’ द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के दौरान प्रेम और संघर्ष की कहानी है।
74 वर्षीय लेखक ने भारतीय मूल के लेखक वी एस नायपॉल समेत पिछले 51 विजेताओं को इस दौड़ में पीछे छोड़ दिया। इस दौड़ में नायपॉल की पुस्तक ‘ इन ए फ्री स्टेट ’ (1971), सलमान रश्दी की पुस्तक मिडनाइट्स चिल्ड्रन (1981), अरुंधति रॉय की पुस्तक ‘ द गॉड ऑफ स्मॉल थिंग्स ’ (1997), किरण देसाई की पुस्तक ‘ द इनहेरिटेंस ऑफ लॉस ’ (2006) और अरविंद अडिगा की पुस्तक ‘ द व्हाइट टाइगर ’ (2008) भी थी।

उत्तराखंड के मुख्यमंत्री त्रिवेन्द्र सिंह रावत ने देहरादून में देश के पहले ड्रोन एप्लिकेशन अनुसंधान केन्द्र एवं साइबर सुरक्षा केन्द्र का उद्घाटन किया।
राष्ट्रीय तकनीकी अनुसंधान संस्थान (एनटीआरओ) के सहयोग से स्थापित देश के पहले ड्रोन प्रशिक्षण केन्द्र एवं अनुसंधान प्रयोगशाला में 10 दिन से लेकर तीन माह तक का प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा।
