WEF Ranks India 30th On Global Manufacturing Index.
- India is below China (5th place), but above other BRICS peers, Brazil, Russia and South Africa.
- Japan has been found to have the best structure of production in the Geneva-based WEF’s first ‘Readiness for the future of production report’.
- South Korea, Germany, Switzerland, China, Czech Republic, the US, Sweden, Austria and Ireland are in the top 10.
- Among BRICS nations, Russia is ranked 35th, Brazil 41st and South Africa at 45th place.
The report has categorised 100 countries into four groups -
- Leading (strong current base, high level of readiness for future);
- High Potential (limited current base, high potential for future);
- Legacy (strong current base, at risk for future);
- Nascent (limited current base, low level of readiness for future).
India has been placed in the ‘Legacy’ group along with Hungary, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Thailand and Turkey, among others.
China is among ‘leading countries’, while Brazil and South Africa are in ‘nascent’ ones.

- दक्षिण कोरिया, जर्मनी, स्विटजरलैंड, चीन, चेक गणराज्य, अमेरिका, स्वीडन, ऑस्ट्रिया और आयरलैंड शीर्ष 10 में हैं।
- ब्रिक्स देशों में रूस 35 वें, ब्राजील 41 व दक्षिण अफ्रीका 45 वें स्थान पर है।
- अग्रणी (मजबूत वर्तमान आधार, भविष्य के लिए तत्परता का उच्च स्तर);
- उच्च क्षमता (सीमित वर्तमान आधार, भविष्य के लिए उच्च क्षमता);
- विरासत (भविष्य के लिए खतरे में मजबूत वर्तमान आधार);
- नवजात (भविष्य के लिए सीमित वर्तमान आधार, तत्परता के निम्न स्तर)
भारत को हंगरी, मैक्सिको, फिलीपींस, रूस, थाईलैंड और तुर्की के साथ 'लीगेसी' समूह में रखा गया है।
चीन 'प्रमुख देशों' में से एक है, जबकि ब्राजील और दक्षिण अफ्रीका 'नवजात' हैं
