30 January is observed as the Martyrs' Day every year at the national level. The date marks the assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in 1948, by Nathuram Godse.

M K Gandhi who is fondly Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in 1948. Gandhiji who is also known as Bapu and Father of nation played an important role during the independence movement. He was the saintly liberator, the Father of the Nation, who had brought together common folk from every corner of the sub-continent to resist the mighty British Empire.

There’s not a single person in the world who is untouched by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi — the chief advocate of ahimsa and satyagraha.

30th January 1948 was the saddest day for the nation as the Gandhiji took his last breath in the Birla House during evening prayers.

How the day is Observed?

On Martyr’s Day the president, the vice president, the prime minister, the defence minister, and the three Service Chiefs gather at the samadhi at Raj Ghat memorial and lay wreaths decorated with multi-colour flowers. The armed forces personnel blow bugles sounding the Last Post. The inter-services contingent reverse arms as a mark of respect.

Some of the famous sayings by Gandhiji

Gandhiji has given us lessons for life, there are many quotes by him which shows how determined he was and with that determination, he was successful in making India free from Britishers rule.

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

It’s a famous quote by Gandhiji which teaches us to adopt what we teach. It means if we wish to see any change around us, first of all, we must follow it ourselves then only others will follow it. This should be followed in our daily lives also.

“A man is but a product of his thoughts. What he thinks he becomes.”

The above quote teaches us the best thing we should adopt in our lives. A man is a product of what he thinks, so if we think negatively, we will become a negative person and if we think positively, we will become a positive person. Every person is encountered with tough situations in his life but how we react to the situation makes a difference. So, stay positive.
